about

You hear my voice (Evan) announce “this song is for all you Lefthand regulars”. That's because we were performing it "live" at the Left Hand Bookstore, a shop dedicated to leftist, feminist and Marxist concerns. (see also "WoG Live At The Left Hand"). The Lefthand Bookstore is now history, in it's place is a head-shop. "Joe Hill" is an old union hymn, beloved by the Left and was on our radar because Joan Baez sang it in the Woodstock movie. The song is presented here in an unlikely blues shuffle, my arrangement. I could blues-ify anything for effect. I loved the idea of totally not-blues tunes played as blues. I get a good shuffle groove going for this one. Ed might be playing the slide whistle as I don’t hear any Ed-guitar on this. He would likely say he had never heard the song before and as we weren’t much up for ‘practicing’, he would sometimes sit out. Even to this day, he'll claim that material like this is not "his thing". Who cares? Just play whatever you think of at the moment and go for it... that's the Walls of Genius approach, isn't it?

Walls Of Genius

Walls of Genius rips holes in the fabric of space and time, kicks you in the ass and leaves you smiling. 80s stalwarts of the cassette culture, they're back in the 21st century. The most unique band that ever was. Really! ... more
